Class Action

Class Action

The simplest way of thinking about class actions is when the claims of many people are combined into one lawsuit, because all the claims are similar enough and all involve the same defendant(s) and underlying event or cause.

Typically, one person or a small group of plaintiffs sues a defendant not only on their own behalf, but also on the behalf of other potential victims who are similarly situated–potential victims that may not yet be known or identified at the time of the lawsuit.

It may seem to be a straightforward idea, but the rules governing class actions are complicated, and the path to initiating, pursuing and winning such a collective lawsuit can be a long and winding one.

The team at Schochor, Federico and Staton have experience leading some of the largest class action cases in the region. If you are considering entering into a class action, our team has the experience and the skills to help you see it through to the end.
