Get to Know Kerry Staton, One of Our Founding Partners
Mr. Staton received his Juris Doctor in 1980 from the University of Maryland School of Law. He is an active member of Maryland’s legal community, serving on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, which provides legal services to low income citizens. He also serves as a Commissioner on the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland. The AGC monitors the conduct of Maryland lawyers to insure ethical practice.
Mr. Staton has lectured in a number of prestigious institutions, including the University of Maryland School of Law, the Office of the Attorney General, Johns Hopkins Hospital, the University of Maryland Hospital and the Howard County General Hospital. He has also testified before the Maryland legislature on issues of law, medicine, and tort reform.
In addition to the Lawyer of the Year® recognition, Mr. Staton was also selected as a 2018 Best Lawyer® for his representation of plaintiffs in medical malpractice cases and has been consistently named to the list of Best Lawyers in America since 2008 and Top Attorneys in Maryland since 2009. He was additionally honored with the 2017 Top 10 Attorney Award for the State of Maryland from the National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys (NAOPIA). How Mr. Staton was Chosen as a Lawyer of the Year®
The Lawyer of the Year® recognition is entirely based on peer reviews, as collected and analyzed by Best Lawyers®. Nominations and data are gathered through a transparent survey process that provides the organization with comprehensive information about the quality of legal services provided in designated geographic areas. Lawyers may not nominate themselves. Instead, the committee accepts nominations from other attorneys and members of the community. Each nominee is then vetted through a review process, where other legal professionals provide personal assessments.
From there, the feedback is analyzed and remaining candidates undergo an additional review to ensure eligibility. Attorneys passing the final review are recognized as Best Lawyers®, while those with the highest peer reviews are selected as Lawyer of the Year®.
