Scott P. Kurlander

Scott Kurlander is a partner with Schochor, Federico and Staton, P.A.

He graduated cum laude from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, where he was a member of the Honor Society and sports editor for independent student newspaper, the Tufts Daily. He was also a four year varsity lacrosse player at Tufts and honored as team captain his senior year. He then graduated cum laude from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware.

Mr. Kurlander is a former judicial clerk to the Honorable Paul E. Alpert, Associate Judge of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland. He is also a former judicial clerk to the Honorable Edward J. Angeletti, Judge of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, Maryland.

He has taught and lectured locally, including at seminars for the National Business Institute to Lawyers and Paralegals in Maryland and the Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers.  He also has presented grand rounds to physicians at Mercy Medical Center and Sinai Hospital on how to avoid malpractice and "Updates on the Law in Maryland."

Mr. Kurlander was named 2008 Professional of the Year in the Malpractice Law Industry by Cambridge Who's Who™. He was also named a Rising Star in 2009 by Maryland Super Lawyers, and for the last two consecutive years, was named a Maryland Super Lawyer.

Mr. Kurlander brings a tireless work ethic to his cases. Senior partner Kerry Staton has affectionately called him the "James Brown of Schochor, Federico and Staton" for being the hardest-working man in the firm.

Outside of his responsibilities at the firm, Mr. Kurlander also serves on the board of the Life and Breath Foundation, an organization that strives to find a cure for sarcoidosis, the world's most common fibrotic lung disease. He is also a supporter of the Calvert School and Gilman School in Baltimore and Tufts University.

Mr. Kurlander is a devoted husband and proud father. He lives with his wife, an Assistant Attorney General in Maryland, and three children in Reisterstown, Maryland.
