We Care About Our Community
At Schochor, Staton, Goldberg and Cardea, P.A., we believe we have an important role to play in strengthening our community. Our strong culture of service, philanthropy and genuine desire to make meaningful social impact is borne out by our commitment to volunteering, thought leadership, and the financial support of charities.
Whether it’s rehabbing abandoned houses in Baltimore with Habitat for Humanity, giving lectures at Johns Hopkins University to medical students on the best ways of preventing medical malpractice, mentoring college students as part of the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Charles Hamilton Houston Scholars Program, or exposing high school students to the law through the Law Links Program, our attorneys and staff regularly lend their time and knowledge to helping others.
Additionally, we’ve donated hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years to nonprofits—both local and national—that we feel are working to make a difference. Here are some of them:
Mothers Against Drunk Driving
Mothers Against Drunk Driving, working to stop drunk driving and support the victims of this violent crime.
American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society, a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem.
American Heart Association
The American Heart Association, fostering appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and death caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke.
Life and Breath Foundation
The Life and Breath Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to improve treatment and find a cure for Sarcoidosis, the world’s most common fibrotic lung disease.
Kristin Rita Strouse Foundation
The Kristin Rita Strouse Foundation supports local and national programs that increase mental health awareness, strengthen suicide prevention efforts, and offer support and healing through the arts for those affected by suicide and mental illness.
March of Dimes
The March of Dimes, a nonprofit organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service
The Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), which provides free (or in some cases low-cost) legal representation to Marylanders with limited income. MVLS also provides free legal help for community-based nonprofits that are working to strengthen low-income communities in Maryland.
Camp Open Arms
Camp Open Arms is a program that was brought to life by University of Maryland School of Medicine pediatric orthopaedist Dr. Joshua Abzug, who works with patients with limb differences.
The Maryland Association for Justice Foundation
The Maryland Association for Justice Foundation supports projects that keep families safe, educate the public about the civil justice system, and help those who need it most in Maryland.
The Baltimore Bar Foundation, Inc.
The Baltimore Bar Foundation, Inc. provides financial support for non-profit organizations that have a significant relation to the Baltimore City community.
One America Appeal
One America Appeal is working to provide the needed items for those who have been affected by the damaging rain, wind and flooding caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. The One America Appeal was launched by five former American Presidents to help our fellow citizens recover and rebuild their communities.
National Multiple Sclerosis Society
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a collective of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—and move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis.
AmeriCares
AmeriCares, a nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization which provides immediate response to emergency medical needs—and supports long-term humanitarian assistance programs—for all people around the world, irrespective of race, creed or political persuasion.
The Green Street Academy
The Green Street Academy is a public charter school in West Baltimore serving students citywide. The school’s mission is to prepare middle and high school students for college and careers in the 21st century economy.
The Crossroads School
The Crossroads School, a public middle school located in Baltimore City’s East Harbor. Operated by the Living Classrooms Foundation, this expeditionary learning school extends rigorous academic learning into the natural and human communities of Baltimore through authentic learning experiences, service learning and fieldwork.
American Board of Trial Advocates
The American Board of Trial Advocates, a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. First and foremost, ABOTA works to uphold the jury system by educating the American public about the history and value of the right to trial by jury.
Baltimore Bar Foundation
The Baltimore Bar Foundation, a charitable organization that was incorporated in 1970 to: foster and maintain the honor and integrity of the profession of the law; improve and facilitate the administration of justice; enhance and improve the image of lawyers; and promote the study of the law and research therein, and the diffusion of knowledge thereof.
Chesapeake Bay Foundation
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation fights for bold and creative solutions to the pollution that plagues the Bay and its tributaries.
Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation helps build character and teach critical life lessons to disadvantaged young people living in America’s most distressed communities through baseball and softball themed programs.
The Jonathan Ogden Foundation, Inc.
The Jonathan Ogden Foundation, Inc. assists young people in disadvantaged communities develop self esteem through athletics and education.
Johns Hopkins Medicine
Johns Hopkins Medicine provides a diverse and inclusive environment that fosters intellectual discovery, creates and transmits innovative knowledge, improves human health and provides medical leadership to the world.
The Special Olympics
The Special Olympics, providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Cool Kids Campaign
The Cool Kids Campaign, providing kids fighting cancer with a higher quality of life for themselves and their families while facing the challenges of the disease.
Alzheimer’s Association
The Alzheimer’s Association, the leading, global voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care and support, and the largest private, nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research.
The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army, an international movement that operates in over 120 countries and is known for its thrift stores and charity work.
Elliott Goldberg Golf Tournament
The Elliott Goldberg Golf Tournament benefits the Parkinson Foundation of the National Capital Area.
Don Cardea Golf Tournament
The Don Cardea Golf Tournament raises money and increases awareness about pancreatic cancer. All proceeds from this event are provided to the Fox Chase Cancer Center.
